My Paddle, My Rhythm — William’s Table Tennis Setup

Hi everyone! I’m William Jin, and I train at Micro Motion Table Tennis Academy (MMTTA) . I’m currently ranked #2 in USATT U10 Boys, a member of the 2025 U11 U.S. Junior National Team, and I finished runner-up at the 2025 WTT Youth Contender San Francisco (U11 Boys). Last year, I was also honored to receive exclusive sponsorship from Paddle Palace, which gave me even more motivation to keep improving.
For me, a paddle isn’t just equipment — it’s part of who I am. I spend so much time training that every vibration, every sound, every feeling from my paddle becomes familiar. Here’s what I use now: Nittaku GYO-EN as my blade, Nittaku Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange on the forehand, and Donic Bluestar A1 on the backhand. This combination has been with me through so many practices and tournaments, and it really matches the way I play.
Blade: Nittaku GYO-EN — Crisp, Direct, and Reliable
When I first picked up the GYO-EN, I liked how clean it felt. The ball comes off fast but still stays under control — I can feel the connection between my hand and the ball very clearly.
It’s light and reacts quickly, which helps me in fast rallies and during my third-ball attacks. At the same time, it gives me enough stability to stay consistent when I need to play safe.
I think this blade fits me perfectly because I like to attack, but I also want my game to stay solid when things get tough.
Forehand: Nittaku Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange — Power and Spin with Confidence
What I love most about this rubber is how it grabs the ball. When I hit hard, the ball sticks for a moment and then shoots out really fast — it feels powerful but controlled.
My coach often tells me to practice forehand looping, and with this rubber, I can easily find my rhythm and timing. The ball travels low and fast, making it hard for my opponents to return.
Every time I hit a strong forehand, it gives me confidence — that feeling when you know the ball came off just right.
Backhand: Donic Bluestar A1 — Fast, Sharp, and Confident
My backhand is more about keeping control and creating pressure, and the Bluestar A1 helps me do exactly that. It’s really bouncy and has that crisp sound I like — every time I connect cleanly, it feels sharp and quick.
Even though it’s a harder rubber, I’ve gotten used to it. It lets me play more aggressively when I need to, and I can go for backhand flicks or counters with confidence.
In the End: Stability with Speed
What I love most about this setup is how balanced it feels. The blade gives me solid feedback and speed, my forehand rubber gives me power and spin, and the backhand rubber helps me stay fast and in control.
Every time I train or compete, I feel like I’m getting a little steadier, a little faster, and a little calmer. That’s why I love table tennis — it keeps me improving, and it helps me believe in myself more every day.
